Artifacts Overview

PicCollage Posters

Used as one of the assessment options available to check for proficiency, PicCollage allowed students to quickly capture their knowledge of a concept and present it in a clear manner. It was most often implemented for students who struggled with a step-by-step approach to solving math problems.

Meeting The Standards

Standard 2
a.
Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity

Students were allowed to present their knowledge of a concept and show proficiency of a math problem by creating a poster for one of their assessments, each quarter. The app used, PicCollage, was instrumental in allowing students to quickly capture their work and present it in a clear manner. Often times students went back to this tool when working through step-by-step word problems, as their were tools provided to quickly chop the problem up into the appropriate steps that could then be solved sequentially.

Students enjoy sharing work they have created. So, provide students with the challenge of solving a series of math problems and showing their work in a very orderly fashion. The result is active engagement in creating posters that can be used for years to come and/or tutoring other students.

Standard 4
d.
Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools

In our Pride Period groups, cultural and global values and lessons were discussed weekly as a part of our community building efforts at school. The sixth example on the right illustrates how PicCollage was used as a tool for students to create posters to describe one word they felt was important for all cultures to value.
