Meeting The Standards
Standard 3
a. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
Instead of asking parents to email me their contact information, I used a Google Form to collect this information. The organization this provided in accessing parent emails when needed provided for easy communication throughout the year.
Once you use Google Forms to collect data, there is no going back. This last year, students submitted their status (complete / incomplete) on their homework and assignments using Google Forms. With many middle school students to keep track of, this allowed me to intervene early and often with those students falling behind in their daily practice.
Standard 3
d. Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning
As shown in the picture, the Google Form collects all of the student submissions and builds a spreadsheet for me to use for analysis. From there, I can edit the code to flag certain cells/fields with different colors based on student responses. For this particular Homework Form, the red jumps out to me as incomplete assignments. This supports my work in connecting with students who may need more attention.
Plus, with my peer tutors having access to the spreadsheet, they were able to follow up with students almost immediately, once class started. Students regularly submitted their homework status using this form in the classroom and at home. During the latter part of the school year, it was more common for them to submit from home upon completion of their work. Ownership!
