Artifacts Overview

Schoology / Edmodo

Prior to teaching in a pilot classroom, with 1:1 iPads for all students, my classes used an online learning management system (LMS) as a means of providing material online and collecting assignment submissions.

Meeting The Standards

Standard 3
b.
Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation

Our use of Schoology and Edmodo in the classroom was limited to one grading period during the year. Our primary goal was to use it for several projects and as a platform for peer collaboration. Schoology is an all-encompassing tool for class communication, participation, grading, attendance, assessments, and assignment submissions. It allows parents to be connected with the classroom threads as well to further enhance the communication between school and home.

Standard 4
a.
Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources

In one of our units, students found math videos to share with their peers on certain concept. We practiced proper methods of giving credit to sources. This was a good model for discussions about property rights and the creative commons licensing.
